Welcome to the virtual home of Root Deco. The core of Root Deco was created by Larry Vilchek and Paul Johnson. During the band's development a number of talented people joined and preformed with the band. In the later years the band functioned and performed as a duo, occasionally recording with guest vocalists and musicians.
Root Deco made its mark as an eccentric band embellishing its blues, country and retro-rock covers with psychedelic, Celtic and Eastern flourishes. The sound was “decorative roots” or Root Deco. If you pursue any of the links below, we hope you find something in our material that will interest you.
In October 2024, Larry Vilchek passed away. Larry was the creative musical storyteller that crafted the music and lyrics for all of our songs and projects. Without him Root Deco has ceased and only continues to exist in the body of work that we have previously created and released. His kindness, creativity, inspiration and friendship are greatly missed.
